A few years ago for an article on how to make money with Fiverr, I opened a seller account and made $200 in a week. At the time, I invested a lot of time promoting that show.
Since we write a lot about side hustles on this blog and often recommend freelancing, I decided to give Fiverr another try to see if it’s still a viable option for making money on the side.
I don’t have as much free time as I used to, so this time I took a different approach. I offered a gig without extra promotion to test the current, more competitive Fiverr market.
I posted two gigs, with the goal of increasing my visibility and sales potential. The results were modest but significant. I averaged about 10 impressions per day for my gigs and made a single sale. The gig sold for $50, but with the Fiverr discount I made $40.
You may be surprised by this income, since all the articles you see online say, “How I Made $10,000 Working Just Two Hours a Week,” or “I Make $5,000 a Month Doing Nothing at All.”
Well, I have news for you. While there are people making thousands of dollars, most don’t, and you probably don’t either. At least, not in the first week, month or even during the first year.
Yes, my earnings may not seem like much, but they are a clear indication that there is money to be made online, and relatively quickly.
In contrast, other online side hustles, such as starting a blog or a YouTube channel, usually don’t make money quickly. That doesn’t mean you should avoid these options, as they are more scalable and can even be a source of residual income in the long run.
Not long ago I wrote an article about how I have one website that brings me $500 a month in passive income. You could replicate that, but you would have to invest a significant amount of money and time to make it work.
If you’re looking for other quick cash-injection gigs, you have temp agencies and food delivery jobs available, but you’ll have to work in the rain and snow, drive your car through rush hour, and probably be exhausted by evening. When freelancing, you sit behind your PC in a warm room in the winter and in an air-conditioned room during the summer heat.
Can you make money with Fiverr? Of course. Getting started at Fiverr may take time and effort, but with the right approach it can become a fun part-time job that you can do in the evenings.
Success involves knowing the platform’s algorithm and creating compelling performances with good thumbnails, descriptions, and strong work samples. Start with lower prices and offer excellent quality and service to get positive reviews. As you build your customer base, you can gradually increase your prices over time.
